Belly injection site reference
Use a belly area recommended by your provider. Avoid injecting directly into the navel.

Site rotation guide
Rotate sites within the belly area unless your provider gives different instructions.
Common subcutaneous programs
Wash your hands
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling medication, syringes, needles, or injection supplies.
Choose and inspect a belly site
Choose an abdomen area away from the navel. Avoid bruised, scarred, tender, hard, red, swollen, or irritated skin.
Clean the skin
Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab using a circular motion. Allow the area to air dry before injecting.
Prepare the dose
Draw up or prepare the prescribed dose according to your medication directions. Confirm the dose before injection.
Inject under the skin
Pinch the skin if directed. Insert the needle at the angle recommended by your provider or medication instructions, then slowly press the plunger to administer the medication.
Remove the needle and apply pressure
Withdraw the needle smoothly. Apply gentle pressure with clean gauze or a bandage if needed.
Dispose of supplies safely
Place used needles and syringes into a puncture-resistant sharps container. Do not throw loose needles directly into household trash.
Monitor after injection
Monitor for unusual pain, swelling, rash, dizziness, shortness of breath, or other concerning symptoms. Seek medical attention for severe or urgent symptoms.
